Here are important logistical interview tips: If you are unable to conduct a high quality interview then reschedule it. A poor quality interview will cost you the opportunity, a reschedule will not.
For all interviews:
- Find a quiet, private, well-lit place, free from possible interruptions
- Make sure you have good reception/bandwidth
- Have a pen, notepad and copy of your resume on your desk.
- Smile, it comes through on voice and video
If it is a video call:
- Use a computer or iPad that stands on its own.
- Do not take a video call from your phone – you come across unprepared, you are unable to see multiple interviewers well and the phone tends to be held at an unflattering angle
- Ensure your internet connection is stable.
- Check that your computer’s audio is working.
- Test your computer’s webcam.
- Close any unnecessary web browser tabs and applications.
- Dress professionally and avoid bright colors.
- When listening, nod and smile to show you are engaged.
- Use hand gestures when appropriate.
- Place your phone in silent mode.
By following a proven process you can focus entirely on the interviewer and that gives you the platform upon which to make the best impression.
