Logistics for a Great Remote Interview

Here are important logistical interview tips: If you are unable to conduct a high quality interview then reschedule it. A poor quality interview will cost you the opportunity, a reschedule will not.
For all interviews:

  • Find a quiet, private, well-lit place, free from possible interruptions
  • Make sure you have good reception/bandwidth
  • Have a pen, notepad and copy of your resume on your desk.
  • Smile, it comes through on voice and video

If it is a video call:

  • Use a computer or iPad that stands on its own.
  • Do not take a video call from your phone – you come across unprepared, you are unable to see multiple interviewers well and the phone tends to be held at an unflattering angle
  • Ensure your internet connection is stable.
  • Check that your computer’s audio is working.
  • Test your computer’s webcam.
  • Close any unnecessary web browser tabs and applications.
  • Dress professionally and avoid bright colors.
  • When listening, nod and smile to show you are engaged.
  • Use hand gestures when appropriate.
  • Place your phone in silent mode.

By following a proven process you can focus entirely on the interviewer and that gives you the platform upon which to make the best impression.
